New Orleans vocalist Camille Atkinson fronts drummer Mark Boquist’s five to nine piece rhythm band as they explore an expanding book of Rock/Roll&SouL music ~ familiar and forgotten hits from the past and funky new originals. With songs from every side of the love equation, EMPIRE BEATS energetic revue recalls the Rhythm & Blues showcases of another era. It’s great music that gets you up and dancing and makes you wanna shout.
Atkinson’s powerful and dynamic vocals and Boquist’s big beats have been bringing people to their feet for years. Atkinson’s work in cabaret adds theatricality and an elegant dose of sexy — as well as a cool command of the stage and audience – to all she does. Boquist has been drumming in bands, making records, and touring as a side-man from coast-to-coast for decades. They met in 2010 playing behind legendary, chart-topping R&B artists Young Jessie, Barbara Stant, Lou Pride, Bobby Patterson, and others as part of the acclaimed Dig Deeper series, a monthly Soul Music revival in Brooklyn.
For events, parties, and weddings of every kind, EMPIRE BEATS pares down to provide acoustic, instrumental, cocktail, and ceremony music and expands with an exciting horn section for a full-on dance party. Miss Atkinson is the consummate hostess that keeps the party rolling. The addition of their Juke Joint Revue — a beautiful, bodacious showcase that includes established and upcoming stars of New York’s burgeoning burlesque scene performing along to the band’s music on their signature catwalk & runway — elevates any event to an extravaganza that delivers an array of musical panache, sass, and class!
